Ecologist, Writer, Photographer, and Outsdoorsman George Wuerthner
With hopes for an omnibus public lands bill in mind, Treehuggers International presents an encore presentation of our 2008 conversation with George Wuerthner. The author of a two-volume guide to California’s Wilderness areas, George has spent an extraordinary amount of time on the trail in our nation’s National Parks, National Forests, BLM lands and Wilderness areas, and is a prolific writer with 34 books and hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles to his credit.
An articulate advocate for the responsible management of America’s public lands, George Wuerthner is also the author of a book about the damage caused by reckless off-road vehicle use called Thrillcraft: The Environmental Consequences of Motorized Recreation (2007), as well as The Wildfire Reader: A Century of Failed Forest Policy (2006), and Welfare Ranching: The Subsidized Destruction of the American West (2002). He is currently completing work on a book about the destructive practice of mountaintop removal coal mining in the Appalachians.
